October 2024: Women & Children First breaks ground for Peace Center
Bryan and Matt attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Forest of Hope Family Peace Center in Little Rock. The Peace Center - to be built and operated by Women & Children First (WCF), a nonprofit corporation that has been helping survivors of family violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking for nearly 50 years - will include both a shelter and a multi-agency facility that will gather in one place the resources necessary the help victims and their children find safety, healing, and hope. BSC is proud to have helped WCF win an award of $7 million in HOME-ARP funds (see March 2024 item below) to be applied to the costs of building the Peace Center.
March 2024: BSC clients awarded over $11 million in HOME-ARP funds
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) provides federal funds to the states to be used to assist homeless persons and other vulnerable populations by supplying, among other things, non-congregate shelter and supportive services. The funds are being deployed through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. As administrator of the HOME program for the State of Arkansas, the Arkansas Development Finance Authority (ADFA) is primarily responsible for awarding HOME-ARP funds allocated to the state. In the last quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024, ADFA awarded most - but not all - of the available funds, to several Arkansas nonprofit organizations that assist homeless persons and other vulnerable populations. We are pleased to report that all applications submitted by BSC clients were approved, and that awards to our clients totaled more than $11 million.
We anticipate that ADFA may accept applications for the remaining HOME-ARP funds in the first quarter of 2025. If you believe your organization may qualify to receive HOME-ARP funds, we would be happy to hear from you.
August 2022: AEDCE honors Scoggins
During its 2022 annual conference, the Arkansas Economic Developers & Chamber Executives (AEDCE) organization honored Bryan Scoggins and three others - including Gov. Asa Hutchinson - with the Maria Haley Lifetime Leadership for Economic Development award. The award recognizes Bryan's outstanding achievements in economic development over the course of his career, which continues here at BSC. Read more here.
March 2022: KSTC recommends BSC
After BSC completed an engagement for the Kentucky Science & Technology Corporation (KSTC), KSTC Executive Director for Venture Deveopment Kelby Price provided BSC a recommendation letter stating among other things that KSTC staff was "beyond satisfied" with BSC's work and would "highly recommend" the firm to others. We at BSC are grateful for the letter and for the opportunity to assist KSTC and the Commonwealth of Kentucky in their efforts to increase venture investment through the State Small Business Credit Initiative. Mr. Price's letter is reproduced below.
